Central Contra Costa Sanitary District, Headworks Screening Upgrade Project
Martinez, California
On November 3, 2016, W. M. Lyles Co. (WML) was awarded a $5.2M contract with the Central Contra Costa Sanitary District (CCCSD) for the Headworks Screening Upgrade Project. The contract represented the fourth consecutive time that WML was the successful low bidder on a CCCSD project resulting in a nearly continuous presence at the facility since July of 2013.
The purpose of the Project was to rehabilitate and upgrade the existing influent screening equipment located within the plant’s headworks. The plant previously had four mechanically cleaned automatic barscreens that transported their screenings into grinders that discharge right back into the plant’s influent stream. This process is not only inefficient, it results in small pieces of trash being allowed to make their way through the plant, wreaking havoc on pumps, sprayers, and other equipment. WML was tasked with replacing this outdated hardware with four new automatic screens that discharge into equipment that wash, compact, and dry the screenings before depositing them into a dumpster. The scope of work also included a new masonry building to house the dumpster, new hot water spray equipment for cleaning the screens, odor control fans and ducting, and other miscellaneous improvements. The Project was successfully completed in April 2019.
