Lystek International, Inc., Lystek Organic Material Recovery Center
Fairfield, California
Lystek entered into an agreement with Fairfield-Suisun Sewer District (FSSD) to take ownership of their existing Solids Handling Building and convert/rehabilitate the building into a new 150,000 tons/year sludge processing facility. The facility takes digested sludge from FSSD’s plant, as well as other plants within the Bay Area, and processes it into a liquid form that is usable for agriculture instead of sending it to landfill. W. M. Lyles Co. was contracted on this design-build project to perform various scopes of work for Lystek including:
-
- Demolition and disposal of nearly 200 tons of existing piping and mechanical equipment to make way for the new system.
- Installation of a new Receiving Pit structure and metal mezzanine which will receive digested sludge that is trucked from other sewage producing municipalities.
- Installation of new conveying equipment which will bring sludge from the Receiving Pit up to the 2nd floor of the Solids Handling Building, over to a new sludge hopper/holding tank, then deposit it into a progressive cavity pump for processing.
- Installation of a new Mechanical Building and Drywell structure which will distribute the processed sludge to and from the facility’s storage lagoon and truck fill station.
- Other various site improvements and structural/mechanical modifications to adapt the facility to Lystek’s needs.
