City of Camarillo, North Pleasant Valley Groundwater Desalter

Camarillo, California

The City has largely relied on blending ground water with imported treated water from another municipal source to meet their drinking water demands. Over the past 20 years or so, the salinity levels in the City’s ground water supply have risen such that there is concern about the viability of their non-sourced drinking water supply. To mitigate their concern, the reverse osmosis water treatment plant WML is under contract to complete will treat 4,500 acre-feet per year of brackish groundwater and produce approximately 3,800 acre-feet per year of potable water, representing 40% of the City’s overall water supply. The project design has accommodation to treat 9,000 acre-feet per year.

The Project features an administration building with a large meeting room and an education center to help promote community understanding of local, regional, and state water resources. The plant in partial will be powered via solar array on the covered parking area. The Project also includes an emergency generator capable of operating the plant at half capacity.
